  • Job Description

    The Director of Logistics is responsible for developing strategies to optimize all modes of transportation, including domestic line haul, final mile home delivery network and parcel shipments.  This position will effectively lead a team to manage service providers to improve our service to customers and lower overall freight costs.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Oversees all domestic inbound and outbound transportation activity as well as direct-to-consumer shipments for parcel and in home delivery  
    • Acts as the primary point of contact for all delivery and transportation issues 
    • Maintains records of all departmental contracts, tariffs and service records
    • Develops and manages transportation budgets in support of overall company financial objectives
    • Reviews transportation spend monthly to determine opportunities for reducing cost, managing service providers and improving service to our customers
    • Negotiates contracts with common carriers and determines alternate supply chain solutions to ensure the best service and cost
    • Validates third party carrier insurance coverage and their ability to meet DOT state and federal requirements
    • Ensures compliance with all DOT, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
    • Develops successful peak planning tools and works with internal and external partners to plan for uninterrupted transportation service
    • Works with Finance to ensure all damage freight claims are filed with carriers
    • Identifies, evaluates and recommends technology to track orders, measure timeliness and monitor damages/exchanges experienced by customers  
    • Establishes standard operating procedures for our final mile carriers to provide a consistent brand experience to our customer
    • Monitors customer experience and uses metrics and performance standards to evaluate carrier performance to ensure all service level agreements are maintained  
    • Trains third party carriers and internal associates on Z Gallerie standard operating procedures (SOP's)  
    • Holds carriers accountable for providing our customers with an exceptional delivery experience 
    • Periodically visits our final mile carriers to improve, train and develop delivery teams in providing the best customer experience possible
    • Partners with customer service to resolve issues and identify root cause for providing future solutions and continuous improvement  
    • Establishes effective working relationships with merchants, vendors, operations and stores to optimize end to end on-time delivery performance
    • Partners with our Direct Ship (DSI) Buyers to provide guidance and direction on how to deliver a variety of products direct from vendors
    • Works with marketing and sales teams on coordinating events that require transportation services
    • Recruit, develop, retain and grow future leaders in Transportation, Supply Chain and the business
    • Understands and utilizes The National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) standards
    • All other duties and tasks as assigned

     

    POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

           

    Education & Formal Training

    • Bachelors’ degree required

    Reasoning Ability

    • Ability to determine and shift priorities quickly

    Work Environment

    • Work is generally performed within an office environment, which includes the use of standard office equipment
    • More than 30 hours a week is spent sitting in front of a computer

                                                                                                   

    Experience & Skills

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in freight and transportation industry, with a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role
    • Demonstrated experience with continuous process improvement in freight and transportation; Six Sigma experience is a plus
    • Knowledgeable of import regulations, inter-modal movement and direct to consumer deliveries
    • Solid management and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, tactical and strategic planner and solutions focused
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and software
